Explore Planets and Their Temperatures

Here is a guiding math activity that will simultaneously introduce your students to the solar system, while also challenging them to think deeply about the differences in temperature in Fahrenheit of each planet!

There is a lot of heavy lifting in the work below, so please take your time, dig deep, and consider various ideas and perspectives as you move through the work with your students. It would also be a great discussion tool to begin exploring the planets deeper in other content areas!

Some questions I have (that you and your students might want to come up with and explore on your own) are: Why is it hotter on Venus than Mercury, but Mercury is closer to the sun? Where was the hottest temperature recorded on Earth? How do they determine the temperature on other planets?
